Military Time Converter FAQs
What is military time?
The 24-hour clock written without a colon, from 0000 (midnight) to 2359. 1:00 PM is 1300, spoken “thirteen hundred hours”. It avoids AM/PM confusion and is used by the military, hospitals, aviation and much of the world in everyday life.
How do I convert PM times?
Add 12 to the hour for 1 PM to 11 PM (3:45 PM → 1545). 12 PM stays 1200. For AM times keep the hour, with a leading zero below 10 (9:05 AM → 0905); 12 AM becomes 0000.
Is midnight 0000 or 2400?
The start of a day is 0000; 2400 is sometimes used for the end of a day (“open until 2400”). This converter uses 0000.
How is military time spoken?
Whole hours are “hundred hours” (0900 is “zero nine hundred hours”); other times are read as two pairs (1430 is “fourteen thirty hours”, 0005 is “zero zero zero five hours”).
